Dear Metro Relief Family, Who is your hero—and why? Can they fly? Are they super strong? Can they climb walls or read minds? Or are your heroes the people who keep getting back up? Donica is one of Metro Relief’s heroes. God is her strength, and her recovery community helps lift her up. We met Donica three years ago. Since then, our team kept showing up. Again and again, we invited her to take the next step toward detox and recovery. We loved her when she believed she was unlovable, and we stayed close enough for her to know the invitation was still open.

Six months ago, we asked about detox one more time. This time, Donica said yes—and she showed up with her suitcases packed. We knew she was ready. Working alongside trusted partner organizations, we helped Donica enter treatment and continue building a path forward. Today, she has a place of her own and is thriving. She has an amazing story, and she has become one of Metro Relief’s biggest cheerleaders. Ask her about it sometime—she will gladly tell you what hope can do.

But Donica is our hero for more than the progress she has made. She keeps fighting. She keeps working. She keeps reaching out. And now she is bringing others with her—talking with friends who are still on the streets and becoming a living testimony to what can happen when someone has hope, support, and a community that refuses to give up. The road to recovery is rarely easy or short. It is a daily walk with God and with people who choose to stay. As Donica says, we are her family now. We will walk together through the good days and the hard ones.
